2026 Korea Postpartum Care Subsidy Guide: Eligibility & Benefits | 2026년 산후도우미 정부지원금 총정리

Hi! 안녕하세요 🤗

I'm 88한 열매맘(Yeolmae's mom).

I'm expecting to give birth in the summer of 2026.
Currently on parental leave in Seoul, researching and applying for maternity support programs in South Korea, Seoul, and the greater Seoul metropolitan area.

Korea has a culture of postpartum care(Sanhoojori, 산후조리). The government is running a postpartum care support program to support postpartum care for new mothers.

When I started researching this in Seoul, I assumed getting the voucher would automatically secure a caregiver(산후관리사) — but that was my mistake. What actually matters is applying early and contacting agencies separately to book availability. My tip: set a reminder for D-40 and call 2–3 agencies the same week you submit the Bokjiro application. And Please DON'T GET CONFUSED WITH SAN-HU-JORI-WON(산후조리원)!

Let's see how to apply for this support program if you're giving birth in Korea!

1. What is the Postpartum Care Service? (서비스 소개)

The official name is the 'Maternal & Newborn Health Management Support Project.' A certified caregiver visits your home to assist with recovery and baby care.

서비스 구분 (Service Category)표준 서비스 (Included)부가 서비스 (Extra - Add-on)
Care (케어)Maternal/Newborn health checkOlder children care, family meals
Housework (가사)Room cleaning, baby laundryBig cleaning, pet care, driving

2. Eligibility: Are you under 150% Median Income? (지원 대상)

If you’re an international mom in Korea, the key requirement is usually that you’re enrolled in National Health Insurance(건강보험 가입 여부). In my case, the most confusing part was figuring out which premium number to use when one parent is on leave — so I’m summarizing the rule in plain English below. 한 사람이 육아휴직이나 휴직일 경우 보험료 어떻게 계산해야하는지가 상당히 헷갈리더라구요. 아래 건강보험료 산정기준표에서 확인하는 것이 가장 정확하답니다.

Family Size150% Median Income (2026)Health Insurance Premium (Approx.)
2 person~6,299,000 KRW/monthBelow 229,357 KRW
3 person~8,039,000 KRW/monthBelow 290,169 KRW
4 person~9,742,000 KRW/monthBelow 360,410 KRW

* Numbers are approximate based on 2025 baseline. Final 2026 thresholds will be confirmed by official announcement.

2026 Korea Postpartum Support Income Table

Note: The 2026 income thresholds can change by official announcement(in 2027). I’ll update this table as soon as the government releases the final numbers. For now, use the 150% median income rule and check your health insurance premium amount.

Most families are eligible if their health insurance premium is below the 150% threshold.

2026 Korea Postpartum Care Subsidy Table

  • For Working Couples (맞벌이): The lower premium is reduced by 50% before adding. [Higher Premium + (Lower Premium × 0.5)]

  • For Maternity Leave (육아휴직):

    • Unpaid (무급): Counted as zero income.

    • Paid (유급): If on leave for >30 days, it counts as zero income (unpaid) or 3.43% of current pay (paid).

3. Application Period & Validity (신청 기한 및 유효기간)

Timing is everything for government subsidies. Don't miss these dates!

  • Application Window: From 40 days before the due date to 60 days after birth.

  • Voucher Validity: Must be used within 90 days after birth. (100 days for triplets).

  • Where to Apply: Online via Bokjiro(www.bokjiro.go.kr)  or visit your local public health center (Bogonso).

4. Checklist: Avoid These Common Mistakes (자주 하는 실수)

  1. Setting Alerts: Set a calendar reminder at D-40 to apply immediately.

  2. Early Booking: Applying for the voucher doesn't mean you have a caregiver. You must contact service agencies separately to book your schedule.

  3. Check Extra Fees: Some agencies charge extra for twins or weekend services. Ask for a written quote.

Now you know the eligibility and deadlines — the key is applying within the window and booking an agency early.
